About MillerOBD

We build OBD-II hardware and software for people who would rather understand the problem than be told what it costs.

A check engine light is a bad user interface. It tells you something is wrong and nothing else. The information to fix that has been sitting in your car's computer since 1996, behind a port under the dash — but the tools to read it either cost more than the repair or hand you a five-character code and leave you to search it.

MillerOBD is our attempt at the missing middle: an adapter that connects reliably, and an app that tells you what the code means, what usually causes it, and what to check first. Written for the person standing in the driveway, not for an engineer.

What we will not do

We will not tell you a generic OBD-II adapter reads your ABS or airbag codes. It does not, and no adapter at this price does — that data sits on manufacturer-specific channels that need make-specific decoding. Plenty of listings imply otherwise. The result is a refund and a bad review, and we would rather have the smaller honest claim.

We also will not pretend a trouble code is a diagnosis. A code tells you which test the computer failed, not which part to buy. Our job is to get you to the right starting point with the reasoning shown, so you can decide whether to turn a wrench or hand it to a shop with a much better description of the problem.
